is a principal of the firm, and chairs the firm’s Health and Employment Practice Groups. Prior to joining the firm, Carla was a partner with the national litigation firm of Boies, Schiller and Flexner LLP. In her practice, Carla regularly counsels publicly traded and privately held businesses, including health care providers and licensed professionals, regarding regulatory, transactional and litigation related issues. She has successfully litigated payment disputes on behalf of providers, and represented health care providers in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other contractual arrangements, as well as professional discipline matters. Her practice also focuses on the defense of Medicare and Medicaid audits, and she has successfully defended health care providers charged with health care fraud. Carla routinely advises health care clients on regulatory matters, including Stark, Medicare, Medicaid and HIPAA compliance. She lectures extensively on compliance for health care providers, including providing seminars statewide on Ethics and Jurisprudence for the New York State Dental Foundation. Carla also provides employment counseling to businesses and public sector entities, including guidance in Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Family Medical Leave Act. She has successfully defended employers in federal, state and administrative proceedings on employment discrimination charges and FLSA actions, and has obtained summary judgment in favor of employers on multiple occasions. She has also litigated on behalf of employers in the area of employment contracts and non-compete agreements. In addition to her law practice, she is an Adjunct Professor at the Graduate College of Union University, where she teaches a course on Business Law and is a frequent lecturer on employment law issues for Cornell University, School of Industrial Labor Relations. She also provides employment training to company management on "best practices." Carla is a cum laude graduate of Union University, Albany Law School, where she served as a Note and Comment Editor for the Albany Law Review and received the Scribes Award for the outstanding Law Review article published in her class. She has authored numerous articles on health and employment law issues for the New York State Bar Association and trade journals. Carla received her undergraduate degree from Hobart & William Smith Colleges. She is admitted to practice law in the State of New York and the United States District Courts of the Southern, Eastern, Northern and Western Districts of New York.
